Nice! Personally I use tweezers but when I can’t get the cotton ball I have to use something like that.

I use tweezers as well. Although, I kind of have to dig the cotton ball out instead of grabbing it with the tweezers; if I did, all i'd get is a tweezerful of cotton strands.

I use THA's reverse close tweezers.
Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

This is a good idea. The tools I use the most with my ants are my reverse close tweezers and a goose feather.

I use a chopstick and jam it down the side. Then pull towards me with a downward pull motion. It works well.
