Hi all, fellow invert keeper here from middle TN. If you're on Arachnoboards.com you may know me as GemTheBirder. I keep a few different things, isopods, millipedes, scorpions, beetles etc.. Currently, my only ants are a Camponotus queen and a hand full of workers and brood which I recently collected while moving a pile of wood. Thanks for accepting my request to join and I'm looking forward to learning a thing or two about ants.

Hello, and welcome to the forum!


Ants I have: Tapinoma sessile(2 queen colony). RED MORPH Camponotus neacticus(now has pupae!), Tetramorium immigrans (x3), Aphaenogaster sp, Temnothorax sp, Brachymyrmex sp.   possibly infertile   :(,  Ponera pennsylvanica, and Pheidole morrisi!  :yahoo: 

 

Other insects: Polistes sp. Queen

                    

Ants I need: Pheidole sp., Trachymyrmex sp., Crematogaster cerasi , Dorymyrmex sp. Most wanted: Pheidole morrisii

I don’t recall there being any other prominent members in Tennessee other than Ant_Dude.

Welcome to FC. A former Tennessean here! I feel like TN doesn't get the recognition it deserves for it's insect diversity. Among some of the coolest and abundant ants are Crematogaster minitussima, Trachymyrmex, Pheidole, Aphaenogaster tennessenisis, Neivamyrmex... the list goes on and on. Check out the journals of Ant_Dude2908 and PurdueEntomology, they are both in your State.

TN and the bordering areas of VA have the highest salamander diversity in the WORLD, just sayin’.

@ANTdrew TN is a fantastic state for biodiversity, for sure. Here in the cedar glades of the Central Basin, where I call home, we have some of the most diverse, unique flora on the planet.
