I've heard of polistes using nests belonging to other foundresses, but will they use old nests from previous years?

any wasp that you see flying around in the spring is a queen, so around now would be a good time to go out!

Wasp queens forage, and have territories, so if you see one in your yard once, you are likely to see it again.

Do people keep wasps as pets?

I have a journal from my attempt last year. Over all it was a good expirience and would totally recommend people give it a shot at least once if you are interested.
