I caught 3 queens today at Big Trees Park in California. I found them by prying some dead wood back to reveal their founding chambers and I was able to get some of their larvae too. I assume that they flew around a week ago if they already had larvae. They all appear to be the same species and all measure around 15-16mm in length. My guess is Camponotus pennsylvanicus.

On a side note I have an excess of tetramorium queens that all have brood and I probably only need one of these queens so I was wondering if anyone has tips for selling ants? How to get started etc.?

Definitely all Camponotus queens, I think they are chromaiodes.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Camponotus pennsylvanicus is not in California. This is Camponotus Modoc. Both are basically the same but they are different species.

The species are completely identical physically.
