So I'm looking at some THA formicaria, and considering the Type I. I've gotten mostly Type III in the past.

What are your thoughts on Tetramorium and Pogonomyrmex chewing through Type I? Does it happen?

Pogonomyrmex: ten times bulkier and stronger than Tetras, so probably.

I foresee a large Tetra colony gnawing away at the space between the glass and formicarium until they had a breach.

Wow, okay, what are other species aside from Tetras, Pogonomyrmex, and "Messor" (according to THA site) that would chew through Ytong?

Just wondering.

Thanks all!!!

Crematogaster would chew through it faster than a toilet paper sale.
Camponotus could, too, if the colony was large and crowded.

Haha just think, 1 year ago no one would have found that line hilarious like I do now

Okay thanks everyone! I guess I'm just going to have to stick with Type III THAs. I really do not need another Tetra breakout, nor do I want Camponotus doing their trademark panicking all over the dining room.

And the thought of stinging Pogonomyrmex everywhere would almost make me want to welcome in a mass of Argentines. But not quite.

Pheidole actually aren't known to chew through ytong. Idk what it is, they just never seem to actually do it, even though they easily could. I've never heard of anyone having an issue with Pheidole in ytong. Solenopsis on the other hand, will absolutely destroy ytong. You definitely need a sturdier nest to hold them.

Mine have been slowly digging a tunnel just under the glass of their type III, so I assume a type I would be even easier to chew out of.

Actually, I take that back. Mine definitely could make tunnels in a type 1 (they already have cratered the outworld of their type 3 Palladium trying to gather substrate to put in their nest).
