I have a bad feeling this is just a male wasp

7mm long from head to abdomen. Very slow moving. Caught today like 15 minutes ago, and it rained two days ago.

Non-elbowed antennae, abdomen doesn't look constricted, gigantic eyes... I think this is a wasp as well.

Non-elbowed antennae, abdomen doesn't look constricted, gigantic eyes... I think this is a wasp as well.


If you look closely you can also kinda see the three extra eyes on their forehead

I believe most ant alates have those; they're called ocelli (singular: ocellus). They're kind of like light detectors, but aren't as complex as compound eyes. I do believe that they're more pronounced in wasps, though.

It looks like a member of the family Sphecidae as far as I can tell from the forewing venation.

This is most certainly a wasp. I can't remember the specific species, but I have seen someone ID a specimen exactly like this online as some kind of wasp species. Not to mention the other typical cues, such as non-elbowed antennae, the large head, extremely pronounced jaws, etc. It may, however, not be a male.
