Help!
I had just put a rock with a large colony of a small species of ant with many small queens. Think of them as Argentines. I have them in a tub with Petroleum jelly on a large rock. How do I move them to test tubes? Thanks.

Species I keep:
1 Lasius cf. Neoniger 30 workers
1 Camponotus sp. 15 workers
20 Tetramorium SpE 30 workers
1 T. Sessile 200 workers
You can put the test tubes inside the tub and cover them. Give them time and the ants can move by themselves.
Agreed. If the test tubes are the only dark place they will eventually find their way in there. Keep a light over the rest of the area. Not sure the size we're talking about so be sure you don't overheat them with a strong lamp.
I got Tetramorium.

So stubborn! These ants cose a bone dry rock...over two test tubes with water and cotton!
