I'm new to the ant community and Just wanted to say hello and can't wait to learn from you all! I am a park ranger for a city park in Virginia. I have studied reptiles my whole life and I am looking to expand my knowledge. I actually got interested in ants when I found my first queen which you all Identified for me!

Excellent! Another VA ant-keeper. Welcome to the forum! We have a thread called Virginia Queen Watch that you can post on and read to see what’s flying. Camponotus should be flying soon in April.

Camponotus will fly the first day it hits 80 and nightime temps stay in the 70s. Look for them as the sun sets.

It’s probably somewhat different here as opposed to Virginia. The described temperature range usually occurs in May-June around here. I’ve found queens in late June through early July.

Yes, drastically different. Friday we’re getting to 87 after soaking rain Thursday. I’ll be on the look out.
