I'm gonna go ahead and say Lasius neoniger. They're having their flights at the moment.

1. Location of collection: Calgary AB Canada
2. Date of collection : September 2019

3. Habitat of collection: Under a flower pot in my yard (beside a ravine)
4. Length: 7-8mm
5. Coloration, hue, pattern and texture: Brown

Went to move a flower pot in my yard and was surprised to find a massive colony with hundreds of queen alates at the surface. I quickly collected two alates and then returned the flower pot.

I am aware that these queens are not fertile but I was wondering what species I am looking at and at what time of day they like to fly because it looks like their nuptial flight will be happening soon.

I don't see why it couldn't also be Lasius pallitarsis.
