Wa.Va., I would definitely let them cool down gradually. That way the queen can stop laying eggs, so you don't have a lot of pupae to overwinter.

I have camponotus chromaiodes and Camponotus castaneus colonies. From what I have read and understood here so far, we need to place them in a fridge or somewhere cold around 50 degrees? Is late November a good time?

A good indication will come from your queens. When she stops laying and seems to really slow down in activity, that'll be a good indication of when to hibernate her. 50F is a good temp to hibernate her at.
