This ant has a striking resemblance to the Camponotus maculatas photographed by Alexander Wild in Durban. It's likely the same species or a member of the maculatas group.

Nocturnal
Atlitute: ~1400m above sea
in land, semi-arid

It is a Camponotus major.  I am not sure which exact Camponotus species are in your area.
