From all the queens that you catch what is the average number of fertile specimens at the end of the day?

I have captured so far just a few and from 8 only one has started to lay eggs, the others are just doing nothing!.. I'm wondering if it's normal or if I need to collect a bigger amount to end with at least 5 to 10% success rate?

Out of the last 42 queens that I caught, only 3 didn't lay eggs.

This is my first year and so far.

2 Camponotus pennsylvanicus 1/2

5 Camponotus castaneus          1/5

2 Lasius interjectus                    0/2

Those figures could certainly and will hopefully change but that up to now. This obviously doesn't count Queens in colonies already. :)

Currently keeping:

Camponotus chromaiodes

Camponotus castaneus

Formica subsericea

My first year on the forum, but my 4th ant keeping:

Camponotus pennsylvanicus 16/21 or 76.2%

Ponera pennsylvanicus 246/362 or 67.96%

Stigmatomma pallipes (Inaccurate due to death before egg seasons) 1/6

Camponotus castaneus 13/37 or 35.1%

Crematogaster 21/24 or 87.5%

Trachymyrmex sept. 2/2

Prenelopsis imparis 63/148 or 42.6%

Camponotus nov. 23/58 or 39.7%

There's more that I've caught but I haven't documented everything, and neither have I finished. I'll update this later when I have more time to. I have a longer list.

I'm not sure if hurricane Michael affected the colonies here but so far only one of my queens looks like it's going to start... we just have a couple of rainy days so I will check around the porch lights today, maybe I will get lucky!
