Update: 1/25/21

Camponotus pennsylvanicus

---------------------------------------

Well, they've still got 3 of the 5 workers they hibernated with, and the queen is decently plump, so maybe new brood is on its way. I really wish I didn't neglect this colony last year. They would have hibernated with over 10 workers if I hadn't. But, the past is in the past. All I can do is try to keep them going until this nuptial flight season here in a few weeks. I'll try to get more Camponotus queens going this season, that's for sure.

Aphaenogaster tennesseensis

-----------------------------------------

The queen has laid about 20 eggs as of now. All 50 or so hosts are all still loyal to their new ruler, which is fantastic. I have yet to witness a worker rebel against the queen and the other hosts. Something tells me this will be my best A. tennesseensis colony yet!

It’s even more confusing because FeedTheAnts’ old username was TennesseeAnts even though he lived in Virginia.

Update: 1/27/21

Formica incerta

---------------------

Ha! Go figure! I keyed these little gals out wrong last time. They aren't F. biophilica, but rather F. incerta, which makes tons more sense. They've been in hibernation for a little over a week now, and they'll probably come out again sometime in February or March.

Update: 1/27/21

Camponotus chromaiodes

------------------------------------

Oh, yeah, Freya got her first pupae of the year late last night. About 10, to be exact. Here's one of them, as well as a few new eggs she laid this morning, and their daily meal!

Update: 2/1/21

Camponotus chromaiodes

------------------------------------

Freya has been very busy lately. She's laid a total of about 75 eggs thus far, and the previous brood has grown exponentially. There's already about 15-20 pupae, and the larvae are all growing very nicely. Some of them look like they'll be majors, which is great. I'll try to get some more pics today, when I give them their daily meal.

Camponotus americanus

----------------------------------

Colony A is doing decent, even if she lost her worker in hibernation. She's rebounding pretty well, with 12-15 eggs and 2 growing larvae. Colony B, on the other hand, isn't doing too great. They lost all but one worker, but the queen is laying some eggs, and they've got 5 or so now. Hopefully they can recover.

Camponotus subbarbatus

-----------------------------------

The colony lost about 30 workers, but nothing too serious. The queen hasn't laid, even after almost 3 months, so I'll put them into hibernation if she still doesn't want to in a few days. They've still got about 200 workers, which is really good, considering they haven't gained any workers since last year. I'll try to get pics of them too, but the glass on their Mini Hearth is a little dirty.

Update: 2/2/21

Camponotus chromaiodes
--------------------------
Freya has been busy laying recently, and they've now got about 100 eggs total, plus the 200-300 larvae and pupae. Looks like a bunch of the larvae didn't survive hibernation, but they've still got plenty of brood. I've been feeding them every day, and its paying off! Just take a look for yourself!

Dude, is that a nest you made?

Indeed, it is! The nest block's dimensions are 5x5x3 inches, I believe.
