Pogonomyrmex californicus!

I found a really cool colony of these Pogonomyrmex californicus (concolorous variation) in a river bed just north of Simi Valley. I took some cool pictures and made this video, which I feel captures them better than the images, so it was uploaded earlier.

 

But I got around to the pictures too. :) I hope the next time they fly I can catch some queens. Just about every species of Pogonomyrmex would be great to have, and since this is such a mature colony, I will be watching them to see if they make alates this year, as it has been pretty decent rain wise. :)

Maybe feed them some food and hopefully they will send out a queen or two sooner. That is, a handful of seeds may help.

Only Linepithema humile do that, which luckily have not been introduced into Simi Valley yet.
