I found it, it's the Baltimore Checkerspot Caterpillar. (Euphydryas phaeton) Apparently endangered? This is what their chrysalis looks like. Also, can I award myself best answer?
Looks like my ID was accurate. Lookie what I came home to yesterday, much smaller than you would think.
Oh that's cool. I'm actually rearing some of these on honeysuckle right now. Yes they are endangered
