Hello everyone, my name is Jonathan Davis and I am new to the science and art of the ant world but I am fascinated by it. I am a Marine Corps veteran and a student/employee at Irvine Valley College. I have a bit of experience in raising and breeding many insects from beetles, moths, mantids, some spiders.
I have been tempted to get into anting but could never find the community or time to really give it a good try. Recently I got in touch with the Ants Canada and the global ants network which directed me to Andrew. I then found his you-tube channel as well as this forum and was blown away at the quality in work and the dedicated community. I then found out that he lived in close proximity to me and had the species I was seeking (Myrmecocystus mexicanus) which was just too good to be true.
I met with Andrew and acquired my first colony in a formicarium of his design. Andrew was very polite and is a font of ant knowledge answering any questions that I had.
I hope to raise this beautiful colony and learn from them. I will try to get some photos up eventually. I am open to tips/tricks and general knowledge that anyone has to offer. Assume I know nothing
Thanks for your time and have a great day!
