Been finding these termites all over my place in california. I was lucky enough to get one! They have wings and are a bit longer than normal termites so I have been thinking this was a queen. The one I have has its wings clipped so I can't really fly. I will get a pic soon. If anyone in California has seen flying termites you will know what I'm talking about

You need a male and a female to make a termite colony (they mate for life), and even then it is a difficult process. Looking forward to pictures!

If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.
Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

Small update: the "queen" seems to be not very active unless you disturb it. It does move around a bit though and tried to escape a few times. I'm fairly certain that it's a queen based on its structure
