I am fairly certain this is a Pheidole parva queen, she is noticeably smaller than my P. bicarinata queens.


1. Location (on a map) of collection: Northwest Fl
2. Date of collection: 6/04/2023
3. Habitat of collection: blacklight
4. Length (from head to gaster): about 4mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: reddish head/thorax with a darker gaster, black
6. Distinguishing characteristics: none
7. Distinguishing behavior: sitting on cotton
8. Nest description: n/a

9. Nuptial flight time and date: 6/04/2023, about 8-8:30 PM

Got any photos showing an above view of the head? From these photos it looks more like metallescens to me.

I hope that these pics are good enough, unfortunately it's hard to hold this big old phone and my light at the same time so there was slight shakiness and it was hard to focus
