Scientists estimate the global population of ants to be around 25 quadrillion, or 2.5 million ants per person. This isn’t much of a surprise since some species can have millions of workers per colony but still an interesting read

The Washington Post ran an article on this as well. Fascinating.
"The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer." Prov. 30:25
Keep ordinary ants in extraordinary ways.

Man... we'd all be in big trouble if somehow someday ants develop a gene where they become 10 times their current size. Solenopsis invicta would be like little gremlins. Don't get them wet and don't feed them after midnight. Or however it goes in the movie.

luckily, it is impossible for ants to do that due to the way they breath through pores(which cannot support larger creatures) If google is correct, the largest ant currently is 2 inches long(quite large though, imagine getting a test tube for those suckers)

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. -Proverbs 6: 6-8

perhaps those pores are on the gaster. i have not done enough research into ant anatomy to give you any solid answers.

Their gaster is sort of like a 'lung sack' thing. It's like saying a human breathes through their lungs. They do breathe through pores.

2.5 million ant's all for me....   :yahoo:

Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?

There are so many fascinating ants right were you live!

I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that are not found in your area.
