I really like the other 2 journal indexes and had a idea for a third. I think it would be cool to have an index or at list a good list of the longest running journals that follow a colony from a young age until they get really big, preferably with lots of pictures. I know the other indexes have dates but my thought on this one is that it would be focused on length/quality. Pretty much a list of the "best journals."

For example:

https://www.formicul...ge-8?hl=anttics

https://www.formicul...tics/?hl=antics

https://www.formicul...journal-reboot/

I can try and possibly make it or if someone else wants to that would be cool. Suggestions for journals  to add would also be nice. The main priority is length and consistent updates throughout the journal.

Sure I'll take up the job, I'll post something in the journals section and we'll see how the community likes it, got nothing else to do in my free time... lol

Awesome. Just as an added note to make sure you understand my vision for this, not every journal should make the list. Also I think that shorter journals can make the list if the colony just happens to grow really fast.

A showcase would be nice, not just as a casual read but also as a guidance for new antkeepers who want to share their journey.

A showcase is a better word for it since a lot of journals will be excluded.

CoolColJ's journal is very good, as is Drew's Acromyrmex. The former is the journal with the most posts on the forum.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

I think Cheeto’s Atta mexicana should be up there. Along with a few of Cocdeshijie’s journals.

FeedTheAnts’ journals are top quality.

Also Crystals’ journals. THG’s Pogonomyrmex and neoniger journals are noteworthy.

I don't like this notion of "excluding a lot of journals".

I'd much rather go with "a showcase displaying the best Formiculture's users created, giving new antkeepers ideas on how to make good journals a goal to strife for".

Sounds much less hostile and much more encouraging.

Wording is important.

I agree. I'm taking that into consideration. That wording was not intended for anything in the actual post. But that is the reality of the post. It's going to be somewhat exclusive and reserved for longer more in-depth journals that follow a colony to a very large size. There will be a note about how this is a list of SOME of the best journals and how some will be accidentally missed. Also just because a journal doesn't make the list doesn't mean it's a bad journal.
