Today I checked on my P. californicus queen and I saw some yellow mold on one of the seeds. I am wondering if this mold will harm the ant? If this is dangerous mold, what is the bestr way to remove it?

You can either remove the molding seeds or move the queen. Also, if that is a test tube setup you don't need substrate really.

Yes, this mold is dangerous and WILL kill your queen if it or the queen is not moved. I have had many colonies die to it, so remove it as soon as possible.

I removed the mold. There is also white mold in it do, you think that will harm the ant?

You can either remove the molding seeds or move the queen. Also, if that is a test tube setup you don't need substrate really.

Don't Pogonomyrmex do a lot better with substrate though?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen them founded without substrate, but maybe they can go without it?

I've heard both of they don't need it and they do, same with founding them in test tubes or dirt boxes. Mine are doing great without substrate.
