Hello everyone and welcome to C. Modoc journal! to start off i caught this queen about 3 weeks ago. straight of the bat i was ecstatic because i've always wanted C. Modoc but just never had luck founding them in the past. when i found her i was in the Colombia river gorge and she still had her wings and she didn't drop them for 3 days later when i got home. i set her down to go make a test tube and when i came back about 10 minutes later she has pulled of her wings and had 2 eggs. keep in mind that she was in the light just in a little collection container. anyway fast forward about a week and she has a nice healthy egg pile. 2 weeks after that and she finally has larva! yip yip hooray!!

Here is a nice little pic of her tending to her eggs and larva

here is a pic of two larva that are very close to the water cotton and are looking quite nice

Go to the first post of the thread, click edit, and select use full editor. Fix the spelling of modoc in the title.

I'm going on a trip for 10 days and am leaving this Saturday so i am a little concerned on if workers arrive before i get back. what should i do? should i just give her a small amount on honey and a cricket leg and call it good for the trip or should i just leave them?

also i have no idea why all my pics are upside down and i can't seem to fix it =/

Okay so it’s been a very very long time since I have updated. In the last couple of months the colony has grown quite a bit and I now have 35 workers and 2 small majors. I’ll post some pics when I get home.

Okay wow it’s been a very very long time since my last update but since then the colony has grown substantially and has gone from 30-40 workers to an impressive 100+. I’m quite happy with their growth so far and am excited to see how they grow in their second year. (Pics will be here soon)

Couple questions.

1. Did you brood boost at all?

2. Did you heat them at all?

3. Did they hibernate at all and if so for how long?

Thanks in advance though.

Okay so no I did not brood boost. Yes I heated them at around 80-85 degrees. And yes I did but not very well because my fridge wasn’t keeping a consistent temperature and where I was keeping them got heated so I took them out in early January.

Just keep them well heated at around 80-85 and keep them really well fed with sugar water and lots of proteins.

Alright it has not been to long since my last update but i figured i should upload some pictures. Before that there is a little bit of an update to talk about. the colony has gotten very active and have almost completely consumed 3 large crickets in half a week and have have started running about a lot more. they also have decided to dig out under there feeding tray and make a makeshift cave which i found interesting. one more thing is i noticed that they were about always 30-40 ants resting in the tubing leading to their sugar water and their outworld so i figured they needed more room so i moved their sugar water directly into their outworld and hooked up another smaller nest for them to rest in and this has solved the problem.

here is the queen
