I caught a lot of termites yesterday (in fact I found some alates with the workers), but I didn't know wether to boil, freeze, or do something else if I were to feed them to my ants. What should I do?

I usually just freeze them first. Being so delicate, I don’t know how they’d hold up to boiling.

When you freeze termites they shrivel up, and when you put them in water they go back to normal shape and size. I like to boil them right before feeding to defrost them and kill any mites still living on the termites.

So I should freeze them and then boil them before I feed them?

That would work.

I just take termites out of my termite colony. I feed them to my ants live but only because I raised them. Then again it's occasional

Young ant keeper with a decent amount of knowledge on local ant species.

YouTube: https://m.youtube.co...uKsahGliSH7EqOQ (It's pretty dead. Might upload again soon, don't expect my voice to sound the same though.)

Currently kept ant species, favorites have a star in front of their names (NOT in alphabetical order, also may be outdated sometimes): Camponotus irritans inferior, Ooceraea biroi, Pheidole parva, Nylanderia sp., Paraparatrechina tapinomoides, Platythyrea sp., Anochetus sp., Colobopsis sp. (cylindrica group), Crematogaster ferrarii, Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa, Polyrhachis (Cyrtomyrma) laevissima, Tapinoma sp. (formerly Zatapinoma)

Death count: Probably over a hundred individual queens and colonies by now. I cannot recall whatsoever.

I don't have a termite colony tho, and I'm not getting one. It was a failure anyway. I ended up melting the container they were in after trying to freeze them and warm the back up again:( Idk if I will try that again or not.

Insects defrost really quickly - no need to warm them, unless you're dropping them into boiling water for extra bio security.
