Found a lonely ant on the kitchen floor. I think its an escapee from one of my colonies but I have just started the hobby I'm not sure. I don't think we have much in the way of wild species here in the Scottish islands because of the cold. Could it be a Messor Barbarus?

1. Location of collection: found it in my kitchen.
2. Date of collection: 2 March
4. lenght: 6mm
5. Coloration: black with some reddish particularly thorax and mandibles.
6. There seems to be some hairs on the gaster.

Definitely looks like Messor, but I'm not sure what she's doing in Scotland...
