Yesterday, I went to a place where I knew there was Crematogaster cerasi colonies.

I witnessed large flights in the very early afternoon. Unfortunately, the insane amount of dragonflies prevented most of them from surviving flights. I found one dealate.

Amazing. I found six dealates yesterday, and my buddy brought me a winged queen he found in his house today. When they fly, they fly!

The big Crematogaster colony in my backyard either moved or stopped foraging.  :(

I saw dozens of queens without gasters, I truly believe there couldn't have been more than a few dozen queens that got a chance to mate.

I just find it really cool that these flew on the same day in VA and WI, thousands of miles apart.

Yesterday I found 4 Queen Crematogaster Queen's on my back porch. I put them in test tube set ups and put them in my closet in the dark. What is the chance they will lay eggs before hibernation?

I don't think I've ever had a queen of Crematogaster lay eggs before hibernation.

All the C cerasi queens I’ve raised have laid after a three month hibernation. My C. ashmeadi queen found this May raised a colony before hibernation.

I found a queen in western NY and there was someone on reddit who found one in Toronto. So it's really widespread!

How prevalent are they in Colorado?

I have a colony right outside my house, and we have several different species out here. I think I just need to wait; I've been anting every day and I've only caught lasius.
