I don't really want to spend $50 On a Formicarium for my ants so i was wondering: Those of you who have had great success with homemade formicariums, how did you make them? Pictures and descriptions of building process preferred, to best detail possible. I want to make one which is relatively easy to clean out, preferably while keeping colony contained and would be large enough to house a C. pensylvanicus colony. I've got a large tackle box at home and I was thinking of using that, Drilling/soldering entrances/exits between compartments, using pvc tubes stuffed with cotton to Block off certain compartments for future when colony grows bigger, and using the largest compartment as a built-in mini outworld with a hole in top of box and baby powder/rubbing alcohol barrier to stop escapes.

Look on here for Posts by Crystals. She had a tutorial on Bead box formicariums (and other great ideas) that would be right up you Tackle Box alley. :D

I don't have any advice on a custom formicarium, but here's a link to a glass outworld I made.

The whole thing cost under $30.

As Acutus pointed out, Crystal has lots of plans for cheap formicarium's.
