If there were dead males the there should have been female alates and de-alates. Sometimes they just hide along or maybe you saw them a day late. They find nesting spots pretty fast (faster than most ants due to the fact that carpenter ants are so adaptable). Just a suggestion. Not from Cal so Idk what flew there. I just know that none were flying in my area.
Keeping:
2x - S. molesta (colonies) 1x - C. nearcticus (founding) New!
1x - C. chromaiodes (colony) 1x - C. subbarbatus (founding) New!
2x - F. pallidefulva (colonies) 1x T. sessile (mega colony)
2x - C. cerasi (founding) workers are here!
1x - B. depilis (founding but no eggs)
2x - P. imparis (colony) 2x P. imparis (founding) Unfortunately no multi queen P. imparis colonies as all of the queens died due to fungus infection (assumed). RIP

Just came back with 7 today. They are flying and I always see them crawling around or on trees.

Going to a park is how I get them. I never seem to find any Camponotus queens anywhere else besides like 3 trees in a specific park, so maybe you just need to find the right spots.

I believe it is based on the time zone you have set in your profile settings.
You may need to adjust it to match the one you live in.

By time itβs 6:30 in California, Iβm getting ready to go sleep, haha.
Ants are small creatures... but together... they can rule the world.
