I acquired a Formica pacifica Queen from a nuptial flight last year. I'm glad to say that she now has her first worker! With 5 more on the way, and a nice pile of eggs. I will be moving them to a THA mini hearth soon.

Consider yourself lucky!
Got the Queen, worker, and brood all moved over. Based on how dark some of the pupae is, I expect we'll have some new workers very soon.

It seems a bit early for them to be in a nest.
I think they'll be fine. It's just a THA mini hearth, and I've had great luck with them. Also their test tube was getting fairly low on water, so I was going to have to move them anyways.

Colony is doing well, I just gave them a cricket before this photo. They dragged it into the nest very quickly. You can see even the queen is feeding on it directly.

Nice colony! Just a question is this a rare species? I find tons of these queens flipping rocks but pay no serious attention to them.
When I lived in Washington they were rare in my area and I wanted them a lot. I love their colors.

In some places they seem to be. This is the only one I've seen in person.

TennesseeAnts used to have a massive colony of them when he lived in Washington.
Did he have a journal on them? If so could you provide me a link?
This colony got to about 60 workers and the queen mysteriously died.

What's the name of your queen, sir?
She's dead, and I never got around to naming her.
