Question: Moving remaining ants after queen moves

Hi everyone,

 

I have recently just given my Solenopsis invicta colony a new setup, and the queen has finally made here way into it. I would say the majority of the ants are now in this new setup, but they are traveling into the old one still. The out world is quite dirty in the old setup so my question is what's a good way to get these remaining ants into my new setup without dumping the out worlds contents into the new setup? My thoughts right now are to disconnect the old setup and chill it, then dump the ants in the nest portion and call whatever left in the out world a loss.

Use an aspirator or something similar to suck up the remaining workers, however keep in mind that you don’t need to move EVERY single ant, losing a few workers isn’t a big deal especially for something like invicta.

With a species like S. invicta, I would honestly not even worry about getting all the other workers. Culling some in that way may help keep the colony from taking over your house.
