I would try setting the formicarium on top of the heat cable and only heating the side opposite the water tower.

Update:

The matured workers kicked out of the nest one Queen after the next, to the point where only 1 queen was left in the nest.

Workers would also pinned some Queens down like prisoners and not release them from their mouths for days to point of starvation.

Not what I expected and was disappointed.

I did release them and hope that next time, when I catch more queens from nuptial flights, I can have a colony with 4 or more queens.
