Nice,Floridanus is the species that I really want to keep as I'm originally from Florida and I grow up with these ants. But living in Indiana now makes that extremely hard. Lol

The Entomology room as my wife calls it (also when she's mad at me for buying more for it the
"bug pit" or other names i won't Wright here. LoL ) currently has


1 Camponotus sansabeanus 3 years old
1 Aphaenogaster Rudis 1 year old
1 Camponotus vicinus 3 years old
1 Camponotus castaneus 3 years old
9 camponotus pennsylvanicus all between 2 and 3 years old
2 camponotus decipiens (sold to me as Camponotus discolor ops lol) 1/2 year old each
1 Crematogaster Ashmeadi colony 3 years old and my biggest and most crazy escape artist ever.
1 Tapinoma sessile colony 1 year old
1 camponotus that I don't know. Small with bright yellow gaster stripes cute little girls. All got those cool yellow stripes.
1 Formica subsericea colony 2 years old that I never can get going well. She only has like 5 workers then like 2 will die she will lay eggs and ill get 10 or so but they die off before she lays again then its time for that winter sleep and we start off next year with 7 or 6 maybe 10 but no growth past that. Very frustrating.

I also have
Hissing cockroaches in a display set up.
Dubia a feeder roaches but also in a nice display setup
Several different types of Isopods
Widow spiders and other backyard spider's of unknown types.
Hopefully I will be adding some lizards a snake or 2 and a few other things to the room as time goes by.

The room is heated separately from the house with its own heat system contained in the room. Is completely self contained all cinder blocks with poured concrete floors walls and ceiling no openings other then its door. Has a door set up so I have a clean room type entry so if there is ever an escape issue its much much harder to leave that room. I love building things and this was a fun project to construct. Also my wife would kill me if anything got into the main house. LoL

The only difficultly with Floridanus is the fast growing colonies… month 5, I just had my first major and 30 workers, tons of cocoons.

That would be fine. I have that room and lots of room and about 7 nest to upgrade step by step as they grow. I miss Florida so much and those were the girls I grew up watching.

Is discolor in indiaiana? I heard they are similar.

Also, tortoganus may have a better distribution(They are both considered Floridian carpenter ants Becuase of similarity)

There similar but smaller then the Floridanus i grue up with. There great but its like all things, RC cola is not Pepsi and Dr. Pib is okay but Its never going to be a Dr. Pepper. LOL
