Welp, this is my Camponotus Pennsylvanicus Journal. Anyways, I first caught her on the side of the sidewalk running into the grass. If it weren't for it's size, I would never have noticed it. When I caught her, she spent next 20 minutes tearing at the cotton, I even had to change it 2 times! So now it's been about a week now. She has about 4-5 eggs.

The eggs are sort of hidden under her thorax. I'll post again here when something happens.

Always try new things, even if its hard, hard is not impossible. We are smart and it's good to be smart but not too smart for your own good.

Ok, yea I know I havn't posted in a while but just a little update: the eggs have turned to larvae but their growth rate is very slow (I know Camponotus growth is slow in general, but this is just another levle of slow). Well, um, this is going to be one heck of a slow journal.*sigh*

I've actually found that the larvae grow at a surprisingly quick rate, getting fatter and fatter every few days. It's the cocoons that take a while, however. Up to 4 weeks with this species. Still, the long wait is well worth it when she gets workers.

yea, honestly, the wait at the begining of the start of a colony is probably one of the most exciting parts of ant keeping for me!

Ok, a little update, there are currently 3-4 eggs, 5 larvae, and 2 newly formed cocoons :D. The pic will be coming on about tuesday. The new cocoons were the 2 larvae largest larvae in that pic:

The two larvae that have formed cocoons!
