So I have a small colony of Trap-jaw ants (Odontomachus simillimus) with 1 queen, 1 worker, 2 pupae and 10-20ish eggs. They are currently housed in a tubs and tubes setup with some sand inside. Also, the queen decided to use some sand to construct a chamber and some small tunnels inside the test tube, looking at other peoples trap-jaw ant colonies they don't seem to construct anything in the test tube which is weird (to me anyways) (did yours construct anything in the test tube?). The colony really likes small cut up dubia roaches and will almost never reject them. Currently unable to post pics though, will post some pics very soon.

This colony has sadly died off, the reason is due to the mites and they were refusing to eat and eventually the entire colony died. It was fun keeping them and this is also the furthest I've got to keeping Odontomachus.

Great! I have a founding queen and she has a larva and a batch of 7 ish eggs. She enjoys eating mealworms so maybe you can try those! Also don't feed them every day if you're only gonna feed them one thing. Every alternative day is a good pattern. Nice colony! Hope to see more from them!

Here's a picture of the new worker (the one with the lighter colored mandibles) its very hard to get pic of them you know... I also found that the oldest worker is sensitive to light (she is also out foraging so you won't see her in the pic).

I spotted a worker hanging on the ceiling of the test tube, I had no idea they can do that on the smooth surface of the test tube.  :thinking:

I spotted a worker hanging on the ceiling of the test tube, I had no idea they can do that on the smooth surface of the test tube. :thinking:

Maybe the tube is scratched. OR MAYBE THE WORKER IS A REAL SPIDER WOMAN!! JK . The tube is prolly scratched.

They haven't eaten anything for three days straight, my guess is that they are all full and there are no larvae present.
