Moved the colony into their new home. A custom built tarheelants Fortress! Great example of what a Fortress for tiny/small species looks like vs the normal 3 level for medium/large species.

Cool. How did you move them?

Using a UV blacklight. I've found it works better than regular light for getting colonies to move.

Starting to think maybe a Fortress was too small of an upgrade. :o

 

The whole bottom level is all eggs and larvae. Managed to get a photo of the queen herself!

So this colony seems to love their new home so much, they are intent on filling it up with new workers! Time to order another custom home for them. :lol:

Quick photo I snapped the other day. I'd estimate there are currently 2k+ workers. With tons more on the way. I've ordered a new custom home from THA for them.

Hopefully I can get my colonies this large. Closest I got was with Lasius alienus. Love the journal.

Hopefully I can get my colonies this large. Closest I got was with Lasius alienus. Love the journal.

 

They honestly have been fairly easy to keep compared to some of my other speices. Fairly good about thier trash, and very amusing to watch.

Yesterday this colony's new home arrived. A custom made "XL" stronghold. This nest was made specifically for this Lasius colony. I started the move last night, and the queen has already moved over to the new nest.

I've got to hand it to tarheelants, his nests are just beautiful, especially that strong hold. On a side note I was curious if this colony forages alot and if so how many ants at a time. I observe this species in the fields around my place and I never see any more than a few workers out of the nest.

I agree. THA nests are incredible I'm hoping to get more soon. Only have 1 mini hearth atm

I like his designs a lot. They look like the real thing and I can't say I have had any bad experiences with his formicarium's other than a labyrinth formicarium I had cracked down the center.   (ANTS EVERYWHERE)
