Moving from tube

Hey again ya'll,

 

Scenario:  Myrmecocystus mexicanus queen with about 20+ workers in a tube sitting in the outworld of formicarium.  Workers have moved into the nest with the pupae.  Eggs, larvae, and queen remain in the tube with newly minted workers, ~5.   

 

Question:  Should I force the move with bright light or just let it happen however long it takes?

 

Additional info:  Any added proteins or sugars are taken into the nest and not the tube.

You can let it happen but I would try and lightly disturbe the test tube to get them to want to move. Mexicanus queens are the most stuborne things on this planet.

i would agree with that as long as the species is not a hard species to care for, and is easily disturbed.

Dump them unless they have repletes or a replete queen. Those can splatter all over the ground if dropped.

Yeah I would just dump. that's what I do with all my ants. Even if repletes the fall shouldn't be that big for them to splatter.

Thanks all.  I "dumped" them last night which was fairly easy.  I moved the queen with a Q-Tip to keep her fall distance to a minimum.  There were three proto repletes in the tube that I hassled onto the same Q-Tip.  Once placed in the out world, these proto repletes were carried into the nest, lol.  The other interesting thing is that there were a couple workers going into the tube and pulling on the queen about an hour before I took advice to dump.  Stubborn and lazy!  Once in the out world the workers had to drag her to the nest entrance as well.  Fingers crossed I guess.  Thanks to all of you for the advice.
