This year i found out i liked ants i also found out i had about 40 species in my backyard and about 10 in the front yard.

This year i found out i liked ants i also found out i had about 40 species in my backyard and about 10 in the front yard. 

That's a huge amount. I probably have half that in my backyard.

this year i found prenolepis. and more prenolepis. and more prenolepis. just like last year. only prenolepis. its frustrating when the only ant queens i literally every find are prenolepis :/

like i have never found a single other species of ant queen i literally don't know why

my yard is covered with prenolepis and monomorium lol

hopefully next year is better :P

For my first serious year, not bad. I found and successfully founded 6 different genera and only missed out on a Brachymyrmex flight.

1 Formica fusca group- 0 workers

1 Tetramorium immigrans colony-20 workers

1 Dorymyrmex insanus- 1 queen, used to have workers

 

1 large P. occidentalis colony- around 50 workers, plenty of brood

Could it be that the argentines tines killed everything else and Prenos pushed them back in your area?

prenolepis is the best! i love them!

 

they are boring. i really don't like my colony. they just sit. and its soooo hard to get them to move. idk lol

This was a a pretty decent year for me I think. I found Pheidole tysoni in a local park and found Lasius neoniger queens 3 consecutive days in a row. I didn't really look for queens most of the year though so that might be why I think my flights are better.

My last anting season was the summer of 2019. I only found tetras. But for me that was still a rare find, as my neighborhood is completley ruled by Argentine ants. I did not find anything in 2020. I searched literally everywhere. I even went into the Sierra Nevada mountain range and still did not find anything.

My last anting season was one of the best! I finally moved away from those darn Argentines! You think Tetra's are bad? At least they stay on the ground! You know it's bad when the RIFA are loosing the battle! Anyways, I moved to a rural house on the lake that's actually pristine enough for tons of natives, and buckets of cryptics! I found Polyergus longicornis in the first week! I've made 3 state records so far, Strumigenys margaritae (which I found to be socially parasitic on louisianae), laevinasis, and Proceratium chickasaw. I've found more Strumigenys than I ever thought I would in a single season (I had previously only see 3 species), Stigmatomma pallipes, Proceratium croceum and silaceum, Cardiocondyla minutior, Camponotus subbarbatus, and many other lifers!

 

Outside of my yard I saw my first ever Pogonomyrmex badius, Aphaenogaster floridana, Dorymyrmex smithi, and Camponotus caryae. I hope this year will be even better. So far I found out that I accidentally collected a dead Neivamyrmex opacithorax worker at my Grandmother's house (where I've found tons of awesome species before), and now I've gotta look for a colony! Wish me luck!
