Interesting day yesterday - we did get a small increase in temperature (25C = 77F indoors) , but the humidity dropped from 55% to 30%. No rain in sight and no rain for the past couple of days. And the rain we did have prior was little. Yet, there was a flight! Tetramorium, Lasius and Camponotus, if I'm not mistaken.

Please help identify these ladies! Hopefully the image quality will be good enough.

 

1. Location (on a map) of collection: Split, Croatia
2. Date of collection: 24JUN2020
3. Habitat of collection: coastal city, pavement
4. Length (from head to gaster): 7mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: dark brown, gaster honey
6. Distinguishing characteristics: 
7. Distinguishing behavior: when walking, tries to crawl under rather to climb on top. A pain to get to enter a test tube.
8. Nest description: 

9. Nuptial flight time and date: 9PM on 24thJUN2020

 

99% sure these are Tetramorium semilaeve

5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: dark brown, legs lighter brown
6. Distinguishing characteristics: 
7. Distinguishing behavior:
8. Nest description: 

9. Nuptial flight time and date: 9PM on 24thJUN2020

 

Lasius lasioides?

4. Length (from head to gaster): 13mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: shiny black, slightly brown when magnified
6. Distinguishing characteristics: 
7. Distinguishing behavior: Very fast and active. Seems to navigate well using sight. All queens made a mess of cotton in their test tubes.
8. Nest description: 

9. Nuptial flight time and date: 9PM on 24thJUN2020

Thanks, I thought so. Which parts of the body is best to photograph in detail to help in identification best? Clypeus?
