I am looking for the pacific dampwood termite Zootermopsis angusticollis (alates or starting colony) for my study. Does anyone know where to purchase these termites, since i live in europe they are a bit difficult to purchase.

I bought the termitat Cause it is easy to observe the termite behaviour, but the US don't permit shipping the termites to europe. So it's just the case without the termites :(

Unfortunately Zootermopsis angusticollis are only present in Canada and the United States. I'm not familiar with export laws for both of those countries, so I can't comment on them, but I would figure that you'd have to get into contact with someone who is able to collect them, get the necessary permits, and then export them. Again, I can't say how difficult it is to get said permits, but you will need them.

However, if you're using these termites for an academic purpose, I assume you would be able to export them more easily. I know there is or was a colony of this species at a university in Berlin (can't remember exactly where, I'm not familiar with the schools there), if you're in the area it's possible you could get into contact with them and see if they can offer you some individuals with which to start a colony?

Does anyone know how much a permit costs to ship termites from the U.S.?

I believe it depends on the specific country. I've looked around into exporting Zootermopsis to the EU, but it seems there are no easily-viable avenues, with ants being relatively easier. Makes sense considering the pest potential termites have

I know for sure that you can send them to the Netherlands. There are no permits needed here for insects. I do breed also Phasmids and bought and did aend them all over the world.
