Congratulations, Air Conditioner. You have successfully violated the ethical standards of ant keeping by releasing three mature captive colonies into the wild, potentially introducing disease, parasitic infections, etc. into the local environment.

I also thought this, do the parasites and diseases come from the various feeder insects? Also, He didn't have any feeder insects, not sure what he was supposed to do.

Possibly, or from their setup, or transferred from their keeper........... Why not let the destructive invasives die such as Anoplolepis gracilipes, Solenopsis geminata, Paratrechina longicornis, etc. instead? They are harmful enough, and it wouldn’t be that unethical to get rid of them. However, I’m just glad he didn’t release THEM.

Wouldn't domesticated feeders be cleaner than outside? Like wild cockroaches wouldn't eat carrot, they'd eat garbage. Also doesn't AC use outside soil? Then the parasites should also be present in the outside soil. I agree with your second point, Asian marauders, weavers are native, and more important to the ecosystem. But I don't think that letting them die would be good, since they are still living things, it isn't THEIR fault that their ancestors were transported by humans.

What I don't understand is why he couldn't have just slowed their intake of insects. The ants would be hungry, but they wouldn't die. And wouldn't they adapt by slowing their brood production?

I check in on his forum every once and a while. There are almost no people there, and the people who are there have no idea what they’re doing, and have no experienced members to help them out. I pity them; one of these days I might reactivate my old account and give em a hand.

No April fools. He let his Odontomachus, Carebara, and Oecothylla go.
