Hopefully some Leafcutter species can be added to this list as they are widely used in lab settings

I seriously doubt they will ever add ANY leacutter species as those are pretty much the definition of an agricultural pest.

Fungus growers that feed on bird/lizard poop might qualify but not sure how feasable they are for antkeeping.

You can transport Pogonomyrmex occidentalis interstate without a permit.

The USDA/APHIS doesn't deal with exportation at all, that'd be up to fish&wildlife.

Do you think Pseudomyrmex gracilis will ever be put on the list?

I wouldn't hold my breath for any additions. This was just their way of saying "hey we looked into it".

You're probably right actually. Pogonomyrmex are still cool though!

I know but how can you export an ant species if it is not allowed to be shipped accross state borders?

I dunno, airport in the same state? My guess is that most american ants you can buy in Europe are illegal imports anyway.

The species have to hit very specific critera, a large (prefferably nation-wide) coverage is one of them.

Camponotus pennsylvanicus and Tapinoma sessile are hot candidates, not sure if any other ants have been discussed so far.

I agree, almost certainly illegal.

I am aware of the specific criteria, I still just do not believe there was ever any real intention to add additional species of ant to the list. Tapinoma sessile would be a problematic addition as it is almost certainly several species all pretending to be one.

It is probably more common that things aren't shipped directly from one airport to another but via several station, maybe even transportation via truck before. And the airplane has to cross state border to reach Europe, doesn't it?

Since I run now a shop I want to import legally collected and exported ants from the US that's why I asked if someone has for this species already an export permit ;). Because if that'd be the case I can be sure that it was legally collected and exported.

Shouldn’t Lasius neoniger be on the list? They are pretty much in every state.

I believe C. pennsylvanicus and a myrmecocystus sp could make the list. It's not easy for the petition to succeed, however, and threat evaluation has to be backed by available literature.

Wait, so do you need a permit to get them, or does only the seller need a permit? TarheelAnts is going to be selling P. occidentalis and I want to know if I will be able to get one.
