I put my colonies and queens and out them in a box with some other old clothes in a box on my front porch to hibernate my ants. Is this ok? I checked and one of the queens seemed dead. I don't really have a garage or something that i can hibernate them in...

Proverbs 6:6-8 New International Version (NIV)

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
    consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
    no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
    and gathers its food at harvest.

I think it depends on where you live and how cold it gets outside.

We're apparently supposed to get a big frost really soon, but I may be wrong.

If the ant's cells freeze, the ant dies.

I put mine in my unheated basement. Some folks use a trusted refrigerator. Here in PA, my target hibernation temp is 5-8 C.
