Hello to everyone. I was wondering if there is anyone who has an active ant discord chat that I could join and be a part of. I just got discord so I'm still working out how it works. Please leave your links below, thank you!

Never got the appeal with discord. Also I don't like to use it because all the info you contribute is not saved.

I actually agree with this, I really love looking at journals and seeing it all laid out in a nice organized manner

I would agree in the sense that the information is displayed well here, it's open to anyone, and any topic is easily searchable (if it exists) here.

Discord is a nice little chat area to obtain more friendships with those on here (because people rarely use the chat function) and to ask quick questions, which could solve the noob "problem"😝 (Also, I see no problem with new people being interested in the hobby, I think what may be good is a big section on the home screen that new comers can't miss that explains how to post, not to double post, how not to double post and things like that. I realize we have those, but they aren't super obvious to those who come here for the first time😁

There is also AAK which is by far the largest of the antkeeping discords: https://discord.gg/antkeeping

Antkeeping talk&trade is another big one although it’s mainly European oriented: https://discord.gg/c4e2jpYS

It's the POV of what ti's for to let you know when to use it.
If you wanna make an ongoing archive of conversions of information then forums. Also if you need or want a 'turn based' communication system that is planned for lagged response times and a conversation that unfolds slowly. Forums.

However if you are in a moment just looking for some conversion in real time, are of the POV to not concern about archiving knowledge for later easy search and retrieval, but are ready to just be in the stream of consciousness conversation moment. Then tools like discord are designed to prtovide for that be it in a text chat or VoIP.

Different tools to serve different needs/wants/situations. Like how a forum would not be the best tool for say hosting a DnD session. You could, but something that was designed to be happening in real time would likely be a better tool for that kind of situation.

I notice some threads, like say a meme thread. Stuff like that feels way more suited to a tool like disc, as memes are very of their moment and so basically always a "steam of concision" kind of thing to be doing. Why achieve that stuff when in 6-10 weeks some viewers won't even get the joke any more?

I am the head admin on the Antkeeping and Eusocial Insects discord serverWe have monthly events, and quite a few knowledgeable members.

Why join a small discord when there's others much larger ones already? My biggest question is why is there so many of them? I'd think one or two is enough. The hobby is already small, we don't need segregation.
