Hi guys! I live in michigan, and I am very interested in ants. I have come here in hopes to get tips after catching a tetramorium immigrans colony. Haven't been able to catch one yet though. I also hope to learn new things about ants as I browse the posts!

Thanks!

Welcome. You should have no trouble finding a Tetramorium queen if you search around on hot, humid mornings. Your main flights up north there will probably be in a few weeks.

The best time I’ve caught my queens at is around 7 to 10 AM. You can find them running around on the ground in search of a nesting spot. You have a chance to catch some queens after that, but most of them will be hiding from the heat of the sun.

Welcome! When I lived in Michigan Tetramorium flights happened in early July, and you could find them throughout the whole day. The main flights are generally early in the morning, but I would look in the afternoon as that is when many dealates are out.

Yeah popping in to say (though I'm not hunting them at all this year) I've seen a couple during afternoons, and the four I caught last season were all caught after 3pm. There's definitely queens running around all day during the proper season, I regret spending so much time hauling myself out of bed for fruitless early morning hunts last year.
