We need photos of such cool ants, even if you’re not fond of taking them!

UPDATE
Saturday (26/5/2023
)

It's been another 2 months, sorry about that. I've just not been bothered to check this forum for quite some time now.
So, all of my founding queens from the previous post have workers excluding the Carebara spp. and Lophomyrmex sp.
They've all been growing nicely, and I've gotten an additional few queens and colonies to share about, as well as a few losses here and there.
New colonies:
Anochetus sp.- They have been growing slowly and nicely in my care.
Echinopla sp.- This queen was caught not long ago, and has a batch of oddly pink eggs.
Crematogaster cf. ferrarii- Queen was caught last month, new workers are enclosing now. Hoping these will grow and replace my Oecophylla as the most entertaining and active colony.

Losses:
O. smaragdina- Was nice having them around, but the queen has recently died.
Cardiocondyla sp.- Queens stopped laying eggs one day. Not sure why.

Currently kept ant species, favorites have a star in front of their names (NOT in alphabetical order, also may be outdated sometimes): Camponotus irritans inferior, Ooceraea biroi, Pheidole parva, Nylanderia sp., Paraparatrechina tapinomoides, Platythyrea sp., Anochetus sp., Colobopsis sp. (cylindrica group), Crematogaster ferrarii, Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa, Polyrhachis (Cyrtomyrma) laevissima, Tapinoma sp. (formerly Zatapinoma)

Death count: Probably over a hundred individual queens and colonies by now. I cannot recall whatsoever.

Hello, I've got a new update. The Carebara and Lophomyrmex spp. queens have died. However, I have gotten a ton of new queens. If they all succeed, or if at least one of them do, I'll make another post in it. Cheers.

I can't really find any queens here right now, due to this, I probably haven't kept ants for like 3 months now. Currently only keeping termites.

If we can meet up sometime close to the year end, I'll see if I can give you any spares or extra colonies I find. We could also just go somewhere to look for ants. Up to you.

UPDATE
Monday (17/7/2023
)

My oh my, this update is a special one! This time, I won't be discussing much about the ants, but I will be sharing some extremely grainy images (taken with a USB camera). I'm only covering a few of the ants in my possession here, since I'm not really bothered to do much right now, especially since I have a lot more other stuff on my hands. Species of ant in order: Anochetus sp., Ooceraea biroi, Crematogaster cf. ferrarii, Pheidole parva, Tapinoma (Zatapinoma) sp., Colobopsis leonardi.

Unrelated to the journal, but I found some wood while at the park near my house that I've mentioned a lot by now. I know anyone reading this would be wondering what could be so interesting about a piece of wood. Well, I found some phragmotic beetle larvae that looked like mealworms compressed into proper tube shapes. They used their posterior end to seal off their tunnels when exposed. It was funny to watch. Next, some Anochetus workers. I assume the colony was deeper in the wood chunk, but I wasn't bothered to check. Lastly, the highlight of the wood chunk's inhabitants, a small part of an Oligomyrmex colony. The rest of the colony lived deep in the wood, judging by their tiny tunnels. They were small, with minor workers hitting 1mm and major workers barely reaching 2mm in length. Planning to go back to get wood for my termites.

UPDATE
Tuesday (7/11/2023

Hello, finally posting again haha. Unfortunately, I return bearing some bad news. My C. leonardi colony has in fact, died. However, that's pretty much the only death so far. All my other colonies have either not grown or grown a lot. And this time, I've got more pictures! (unfortunately, they're blurry) Nothing much to say, you'll have to see for yourselves. Also I've gotten 2 new queens; a Cardiocondyla sp. and Carebara (Oligomyrmex) sp.

It's sad that the Colobopsis died, yours looked much more successful than mine.

UPDATE
Wednesday (17/1/2024)
First update of the year. Well, sad to say but I haven't gotten any new ants, and I've also lost a few. Cardiocondyla, Anochetus and Carebara have all died within the past few weeks. ANTdrew is going to be mad/sad when he hears this too, but the Crematogaster ferrarii queen has actually also been confirmed dead just a few minutes ago. For the survivors, Pheidole parva and Camponotus irritans inferior are holding strong, both having pretty large generations on the way. Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa (who hasn't been laying for months now) has finally laid 2 eggs. O. biroi colony MIGHT die though, they've eaten all their brood. Tapinoma colony still stuck with the same number of workers, but at least they aren't dead. We'll see how this goes. I'll probably get a ton of new queens next month if all goes well though, since I'll be visiting my top anting spot once again :) No images, I doubt anyone would need any since no progress has been made. Polyrhachis images will come only if she gets workers ;)

So, the post editor is currently broken/bugged for me it seems, as the toolbar is not there. Anyway, I've found a queen of a Nylanderia species that I cannot name. Why? Well, I don't know what it is. However, I can confirm it is likely this same species in the thread here: https://www.formicul...java-indonesia/ I have collected worker specimens of a very similar species from the park near my house, and I'm looking forward to keeping this beautiful Nylanderia species. I will actively search for more queens like these in the future too, I definitely want as many colonies of these as I can get xD
