This is a placeholder for a thread on basic ant keeping for people absolutely brand new to the topic. I'll be covering basic ant husbandry as if you'd never considered ant keeping a hobby before. I'll be focusing on setups that you can make or prepare yourself, not the pre-made formicariums that a few companies are offering now.  As I have time between classes and work, I'll fill each section.

I want to do a separate, similarly basic guide to anting as well. Perhaps later they can be combined into a single FAQ?

This is a preliminary list of the topics I'll be covering. Any suggestions are welcome and desired!

Table_Contents

-Basic principles of ant keeping.

-The importance of moisture.

-A few guiding principles.

-Different types of enclosures.

-Feeding.

-How to keep your ants from escaping!

-Which enclosure is best for your ants?

-How to safely get your ants to move from the container you collected them from into their new home, as well as moving colonies from enclosure to enclosure without killing them.

Make sure to include the soft fire brick method Dpdrew came up with. I have this one at OSU as of right now, they are in the process of moving in as of right now.
