veromessor pergandei queen dealate el mirage dry lake southern california

A veromessor pergandei dealate searching for a place to build her founding chamber. I spotted about 8 of these within a small area on the northern edge of El Mirage Dry Lake in southern California on April 2, 2022. They were crawling under storage bins, car tires, and finding anything shady, including our shoes when we stood still, terrifying some of the kids I was with 😆

I collected one dealate and one alate to try to start a colony with.
