Found a big one. Length is accurate. Sorry for the bad pics, I'm just lousy at ant photography

1. Location of collection: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
2. Date of collection : 15 September 2018.
3. Habitat of collection: Urban neighborhood sidewalk
4. Length: 16 mm tip of gaster to mandible. (It's a big one!)
5. Coloration, hue, pattern and texture: As far as my eyes can tell she is all black and shiny
6. Distinguishing characteristics: N/A
7. Anything else distinctive: N/A

Thought it might be one of the larger local Camponotus species as per AntWeb site but when I go down that list all the larger camponotus have features I don't quite see those features on this ant.

Camponotus pennsylvanicus

For some reason I thought that C. pennsylvanicus. had more prominent hair on gasters so I did not ev n consider them. But looking at images now I think you are correct.
Thanks.

I saw a huge alate with wings the other day too, found it odd to see her at this time of year but didn't see any others so maybe a outcast?

Has there been a drought or other unusual conditions in the area?  Just curious as Camponotus are known to have Fall queen ejections if there are problems supporting the colony.
