Hello.... new member from Colorado here. I kept a Queenless colony given as a gift years ago. I spent many countless hours watching ants as a child. I am finally jumping in and looking for my first colony, queen and all. I purchased a large octagon tank which until my colony comes along will be full of terrarium plants. I am a house plant freak too. Have probaby 600 or so, that I grow and sell. LOL.
Does anybody sell actual colonies that are good sized? At this point, been looking for awhile.... I am prepared to spend to get a full colony, or at least big enough to go into my tank. I am hoping for something larger such as Camponotus. Like another new member said. I don't want to wait a year with a test tube set-up. Already, I am going to be having to hibernate anyway.
I have been avidly reasearching and watching evryones video's and website acrosss the web and love to see the passion people have for these lil wondrous creatures!!

I already have a dream colony, but I know I will never get them since I am in Colorado. But I just love the Crazy Ants, yellow and the black too!

Well, just wanted to say hello to all of you, as I am very excited to be here.

Welcome to formiculture!

If you want to find more sellers in your area, you can look through the General Market Place for details!

Also, per forum rules, if you plan on conducting any trading regarding ants, please also add your location to your profile.

Welcome!
I'm in Australia so it may be different but larger colonies are available here. The price jumps up pretty alarmingly when large numbers of workers are added though.
The colonies I have bought have 4 to 6 workers and to me it seems a good amount to start with. There are enough to do the various jobs that need doing in a colony. You'll see a few going about their business but you're still starting with a young queen and a young colony with a long future ahead without having to be rehoused for a long time if ever.
