update?

Finally logged in for once after taking a break from making videos and being involved with ants. Unfortunately this colony died out. I noticed the workers dwindling out and I wondered why. I wasn't able to see the queen at the bottom because they covered it up with sand, but I saw this one dark spot that I thought was mold. Once it got to the point where there were less and less workers showing up, I uncovered the nest and saw it was the queen that had died  :( I forgot when exactly this happened since it's been so long since, but it was sometime in 2022.

Usually I find queens in June or July, so I'm hoping to restart again with this species.

July 2, 2023: Return of The Dorymyrmex

So glad I found this species again since they are one of my favorites. After my original colony died, I've been hoping to find another queen and move them into a large setup because of how much they terraform their surroundings and how active they are. Plus they are the only ants I have that have this nice orange coloration.

August 1, 2023: Developing Eggs

Hoping these eggs will turn into workers and not drones. Last time I had a winged queen of this species, she laid drone eggs. Let's hope for the best this time!
