I always like giving my queens Norse goddess names. How about Freya?
Sounds like an awesome colony.

No Frigg, because this is a large?colony, almost like a king or queen. Frigg is queen of Asgard or Asgardia so that’s why Frigg is appropriate. But up to the Dude of Ants.

I already named the Crematogaster queen of mine who got her first nanitic Frigg. There is some debate that Frigg and Freya are actually one and the same.

They ate a few termites and their larvae are HUGE. They have even more major pupae and some new workers eclosed bringing the worker total up to around 275 workers! Freya laid more eggs too.... :o

Pics! Colony #1

You can see some of the huge pupae towards the bottom of the nest. The pupae are around 13 millimeters long, and 6 millimeters wide. That is gonna be one huge major (or male)!

Some new workers eclosed in colony #1. They were minors though. Freya laid 60ish more eggs... The brood from last month is all pupae now.  And they have around 200 eggs, 300 larvae of various sizes and around 100 pupae. Total, they have around 660 brood and 280 workers. I gave them a mealworm today. They have moved most of the brood to the bottom chamber, so you can barely see in.

Colony #2 has some nice piles of brood and I think they might catch up to Freya soon! (Sorry for the bad quality pics, they are in a Discus, so pics are hard!)

Ok, thought I might ask this: Freya's colony will grow specific larvae to as large as her, then kill the larvae and eat it... Any suggestions as to why they do this?

Ok, now the update! They had some new workers eclose and some more pupae.

You would think the large larvae would be majors. Not sure why they would eat them though. Unless they had a lack of food.
